The National Black Church Initiative (NBCI) a faith-based coalition of 34,000 churches comprised of 15 denominations and 15.7 million African Americans, say this is a typical example of the highest form of hypocrisy that exists in our media. Individuals who say that they are objective, and fair-minded journalists are themselves guilty of the same thing they accuse others of and get on television to act sanctimonious.
Mr. Halperin supported gay marriage with all of his other liberal friends and also cursed the Church every time we raised our heads to object to same-sex marriage. Now, he expects us to overlook his sexual abuse of women and say nothing. We will not do this because largely NBCI has been very consistent at calling out ministers from the Catholic and Protestant Churches when they have abused children, women and abused their moral authority. When we see examples of this in our media we will not hesitate to also shine a bright light on anyone like Mark Halperin who lift themselves up as ‘the moral example to follow’ and those who have a clever political analysis of the situation.
Rev. Anthony Evans, President of the National Black Church Initiative says, “This is another egregious example of a liberal, self-righteous journalist who is guilty of abusing women and becoming a sexual predator in the meantime while touting himself to us viewers as someone that we should believe in. This is why the Church always tells its members to not believe anyone, other than the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Savior.”
The Black Church cannot let this particular example go unanswered without pointing out that Mark Halperin is a sexual predator and a hypocrite all at the same time. According to NBC News, “The NBC News analyst denies claims that he grabbed a woman’s breast and pressed an erection against other women without consent.”
What makes this case so egregious is that this man has been touted as a legitimate journalist for decades. He worked at ABC, NBC, MSNBC and HBO. These five women could be the tip of the iceberg. The Church must warn journalists, if they are going to lift themselves up by some holy moral standards, they must do what all Christians do, repent for their sins, be cleaned, accept the Lord Jesus Christ as their savior and stop being a hypocrite when they know they are guilty of the same moral crimes they are accusing someone else of.
